[Englecturers] FW: [Msoadm] OP Statement Regarding Reinstatement ofUCRP Contributions

I'm not aware that any unions have been saying what Randy Scott says they're
saying. What unions have been saying is that UC is considering asking for
an 8% contribution to UCRP from employees, matched by an 8% contribution by
UC (total 16%). I can't speak for all the unions, but UC-AFT considers that
contribution rate unacceptable, and an on-line petition to the Regents on
this issue is posted at www.upte.org.

If anyone is aware of a website or other statement where a union is talking
about either an 8% wage cut or a 16% employee contribution, as Randy Scott
asserts, please direct me to it.

Subject: [Msoadm] OP Statement Regarding Reinstatement of UCRP Contributions
Importance: High

Dear Administrative Managers:

The following has been provided to all UCR Academic Senate Faculty,
Non-Senate Faculty and other academic personnel via Scotmail. Please
forward a hard copy of this notice to any academic employees in your
department/unit who do not have email access or who have not been designated
as academic employees in your UCR Tel Program database (which is maintained
by and updated by your departmental UCR Tel Coordinator).
ACADEMIC PERSONNEL OFFICE
*************************************************
Dear Campus Community,
Office of the President has sent us the following communication regarding
future plans for the UC Retirement Program. We are forwarding it to you for
your information.
Academic Personnel
**********************************
Dear Colleagues,
Following the Regents approval in March of an updated funding policy for the
UC Retirement Plan (UCRP), there has been widespread misinterpretation of
the Regents action on the part of designated representatives of certain
employee groups. In some cases, statements have been circulated that are not
true. I'd like to take this opportunity to clearly state what the Regents
action means to employees.
Active employees will not be asked to make 16 percent contributions to UCRP,
nor is there any action under consideration to reduce employee pay by 8
percent in July 2007. The Regents adopted the concept of a multi-year
contribution strategy under which contributions from employees and the
University will be shared and will increase gradually over time. The intent
of the Regents action is to begin contributions at a low level to minimize
the impact on employee take-home pay and on the University's operating
budgets.
The specific levels of employee and University contributions have not yet
been decided by the Regents. The reinstatement of contributions to the UCRP
is subject to the budget process and the collective bargaining process for
represented employees.
To keep informed, visit UC's special website, "The Future of the UC
Retirement Plan
<http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/ucrpfuture/welcome.html> ,"
which is updated with the latest information.
 Sincerely,
Randy Scott,
Executive Director
HR/Benefits Policy and Program Design
