Here's some info on cultural enhancement in Riverside. I.e., let's light a
candle rather than curse the darkness. Cheers, Steve

THE GOOD NEWS a film festival is coming to Riverside!!!
THE BAD NEWS when its over well have to go back to driving an hour to see
the good art movies
UNLESS
you read below to find out how you can help art, foreign &
independent films become shown in Riverside permanently
Dear Friends who want first-run Art, Foreign and Independent Films in
Riverside -
Were finally getting the bookstores and trendy coffee shops, but an
important element is still missing in Riverside
ART, INDEPENDENT & FOREIGN
FILMS
it is still an hour drive, in any direction, to see most of the great
movies. WE HAVE A CHANCE TO CHANGE THAT
When the RIVERSIDE FILM FESTIVAL-
Feb17-26 (see festival schedule below) is over the Mayor plans to schedule
one of his monthly corporate visits with the owner and/or manager of the
Metropolitan Theatre Group to encourage the use of some of their screens as
screening rooms for art films. Since Riverside has 4 universities and
colleges and a regional population over a million, this should be a
profitable move for the theaters at University Village. Were thinking that
with the loss of business that they must be experiencing now that the
Riverside Plaza Theatre is open and if we provide a strong showing at the
film festival (this is where you come in) the owners should be more willing
to consider the Mayors request. So, please make the film festival a
priority Feb 17th 26th and please seek out the manager and encourage
him/her to start showing art films. Thanks
sue
On a personal note
friends, Julie & Bob deKorne, recently bought Ciao
Bella. The restaurant is just down the street from the University Theatres
on the corner of Chicago & Spruce
so I encourage you to stop by and see the
new décor, menu and remodeled patio (we intend to have some great parties on
that patio over the years.) Julie will be offering some bar menu and dessert
specials to film festival attendees so be sure to mention that youve
attended or intend to. Also, try out Zees favorite martini named in memory
of my Italian grandmother
the ERMENIA ALBINA BERTOLINI BALLARDINI
MARTINI!!!! I will give a FREE Film Festival ticket to anyone who calls me
and pronounces it correctly!! If you need to find me for any reason Feb
17th thru the 26th youll find me at either Ciao Bellas or the Film
Festival
Ciao
Susan Mary Theresa Keck Mitchell (that doesnt sound very
Italian does it ??!!)

Riverside International Film Festival 2006 (4th Annual) continues to grow in
size, scope and stature as a prominent venue for top quality international
cinema, showing films from around the world, including world premieres,
features, shorts and documentaries.
As a major center of arts and culture in Inland Southern California, the
City of Riverside is proud to welcome the international film community and
audiences who enjoy and appreciate the entertaining, enlightening, inspiring
and provocative stories of our world, as told by some of the industry's most
innovative filmmakers and up-and-coming directors, for a rich and varied
artistic experience.
RIFF has been attracting many global entries from France, Germany, China,
Korea, Japan and India and from all over the US. Traditionally the event
kicks off with a huge networking party, followed by 10 days
of screenings, red carpet premieres, and panels with industry executives and
after-parties.
The goal of the Riverside International Film Festival is to bring the best
of independent cinema, including features, shorts and documentaries, as well
as filmmakers and actors, from all over the world to Riverside, says Dr.
Harkeerat Dhillon, Festival President. At the same time we partner with
different countries who send to us their best and most recent films. This
year we expect greater involvement from our significant student population.
Our audiences will discover the power and the passion of these filmmakers
visions. We think they will find that each film is a thoroughly entertaining
and rewarding experience.
