Hi Dr. Tsotras,

I am contacting you once again regarding the USGS Summer Internship
program. It was very successful last year, and we are at it again!

*Would you be able to send the below announcement and pdf around to your
students and colleagues?*We are targeting students early in their
college career at colleges and universities near USGS offices to
introduce more students to geosciences and the USGS. We are interested
in contracting with students from 2-year, 4-year, and graduate programs
into the USGS. Last year 19 students participated in our internship
program, some of whom are still working with us in longer-term
positions. Internships are via student services contracts where students
engage in specialized research/activities related to their studies
during the summer (12 weeks, full time). Successful applicants are paid
an hourly wage commensurate with their experience.

Attached is a flyer with details about the recruitment event, and the
internship program.  Info can also be found on our webpage:

We are holding a *Zoom info session* *Thursday February 8, 2024 at 7 pm
Pacific*

<https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86355187841?pwd=T0EvTi9mbWphakZOU2N0ZnYvcDhOZz09>

Applications can be submitted between now and February 16 at 11:59pm
Pacific time at:

https://forms.gle/iU1a9726tnjsVTD29 <https://forms.gle/iU1a9726tnjsVTD29>

We are interested in connecting with student groups, veterans' groups,
and to reach students outside of geology programs as well in hopes of
attracting a diverse applicant pool - many internships are not focused
on geology; we have geophysics, education, computer science, graphic
design, and other interesting project ideas.

Also, if there is someone in your department or school that might be a
better contact in the future, please let us know! We will update our
database of connections. Any questions can be directed to me or
toesc_internships at usgs.gov <mailto:esc_internships at usgs.gov>

Cheers and many thanks,
Elizabeth
