Dear DS majors,
see below some opportunities for summer internships with the U.S.
Geological Survey’s Earthquake Science Center. They have a zoom mtg
coming up for more info. The attached pdf describes the projects (the
last one is definitely DS related).
best,
V. Tsotras

Dear Dr. Tsotras,
We were in contact last year regarding our U.S. Geological Survey’s
Earthquake Science Center Summer Student Internship program. It was
wildly successful, and we are at it again!
*Would you be able to send the announcement around to your students and
colleagues ASAP?*We are targeting students early in their college career
at colleges and universities near USGS offices (Pasadena, CA; Moffett
Field, CA; Menlo Park, CA; Seattle, WA) to introduce more students to
geosciences and the USGS. We are interested in hiring students from
2-year, 4-year, and graduate programs into the USGS. Last year we hired
19 students, some of whom are still working with us in longer-term
positions.
Attached is a flyer with details about the recruitment event, and the
internship program. We are holding a Zoom info session *Thursday
February 2, **2023**at 7 pm Pacific*and the application will open
*Sunday February 5, **2023**at 9 pm Pacific *and close when we received
the maximum number of applicants, likely within a day or two. All
positions are fully paid according to the federal pay scale. (Just to
note, the students do have to be U.S. Citizens).
Also, if there is someone in your department or school that might be a
better contact in the future, please let us know! We will update our
database of connections.
We are interested in connecting with student groups, veterans' groups,
and to reach students outside of geology programs as well in hopes of
attracting a diverse applicant pool - many positions are not focused on
geology; we have geophysics, education, computer science, graphic
design, and other interesting project ideas.
Any questions can be directed to me or to esc_internships at usgs.gov
