The Department of English and Creative Writing at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications for a Visiting AssistantProfessor position in Screenwriting.

Salary: Commensurate with rank and experience

Description ofResponsibilities: The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for teaching introductory, intermediate, and advanced screenwritingcourses in a robust Creative Writing program with 130 majors. The responsibilities for this position include teaching courses in dramaticstructure and film aesthetics within the Cinema and Screen Studies program of the Department of English and Creative Writing; providingdepartmental and University service; advising majors; and continuing to produce a nationally competitive portfolio of sustained anddistinctive creative activity.

Required Qualifications: M.F.A. or M.A. with equivalent industry/professional experience. We areseeking a proactive colleague who has excellent communication skills and a rich understanding of idea development and creative writingconcepts. The successful candidate will demonstrate a deep commitment to mentoring students and an entrepreneurial attitude to helping growthe program. Candidates must be dedicated to helping students from diverse backgrounds succeed in a multicultural and globalcommunity.

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates should have a record of outstanding narrative storytelling in feature and short filmscreenwriting; evidence of teaching effectiveness; and experience as a mentor on individual student screenwriting projects.

Description of Department: The Creative Writing program was founded at SUNY Oswego in 1965, oneof the first undergraduate majors in creative writing in the world. The SUNY Oswego Creative Writing and Cinema and Screen Studies programsoffer BA degrees that integrate creative and critical studies. The program provides undergraduates with the opportunity to earn a BA degreethat integrates specialized writing within genres as well as critical studies of genre. The program has approximately 130 full time majorswho are equally distributed among the key focus areas of the program: screenwriting, playwriting, nonfiction, fiction and poetry. It is aprogram with a strong history that seeks new faculty who are being innovative and entrepreneurial in their approach to curriculum andprogram design.
