>From its fantasies of dematerialization, deterritorialization, and friction-free circulation, to its depictions of confinement, immiseration, and disarticulation,
science fiction relentlessly-if not always intentionally-generates images that condense and figure the workings of global capital. The Science Fiction of
deindustrialization produced by the neoliberal ascendancy of the 1980s and 1990s has more recently been articulated through an affective
dialectics of mobility and constraint that resonates strongly with spatial and biopolitical analyses of neoliberal globalization.
Against this backdrop, I will consider the representation of labor in three films: Transformers (Bay, US 2007),
Africa Paradis (Amoussou, Benin/France 2006), and Sleep Dealer (Rivera, Mexico/US 2008).
