[CW-Grad] FW: Director/writer Matt Piedmont visits tomorrow Thursday May 5

Matt Piedmont, the writer and director of Will Ferrell's latest movie, "Casa
De Mi Padre" will be on campus tomorrow.  You are invited to hear him talk
about his work and to see his short film "Brick Novax's Diary", which won
the US Grand Jury Prize for Short Filmmaking at the Sundance Film Festival.


 

Matt will be speaking from 2 - 3:30 in Humanities 411 on Thursday May 5.  

 

Matt Piedmont was born in Walnut Creek, California and grew up in the
Pacific Northwest. At 25, he was hired as a writer for Saturday Night Live,
where he worked for six years, earning an Emmy in the process. He wrote and
directed the popular web series "Carpet Brothers", which was later filmed as
a pilot for HBO.  Piedmont also directs commercials with the production
company Prettybird and has directed spots for Pepsi, 7up, HBO and others. 

 

His short film "Brick Novax's Diary" won the U.S. Grand Jury Prize for Short
Filmmaking at the Sundance Film Festival. Matt most recently completed his
first feature film "Casa De Mi Padre" starring Will Ferrell, Gael
Garcia-Bernal and Diego Luna.  Louis Carazo, a former UCR student and
current faculty member is also in the movie.


Matt lives in Venice with his wife Jill, and can usually be found in thrift
shops augmenting his huge collection of vinyl records."
