Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I am very pleased to announce alternative-publications's sixth release:
Hunting Hemingway (Selections), by Ron Arias.

As a reminder, all other five works are available in our virtual library.

In addition, I'd like to take this opportunity to share with you the
following call for submissions:

Your contribution is sought for a book, edited by Prof. Manuel M.
Martín-Rodríguez (University of California, Merced), in which Chicanas and
Chicanos tell their stories as readers. Possible topics include (but are not
restricted to): your experience as a reader in general; your first encounter
with books; a memorable reading; remembrances of other people (relatives,
etc.) reading to you, or vice versa; books that were owned by you and/or
your family; experiences in the library; your favorite genre to read; books
you would like to read; among others. In general, any other topics related
to reading, personal or public libraries, books, periodicals (including
comics), and collective readings are welcome. The main idea is to present
the richness and complexities of Chicano/a experiences with books and
reading, and, in so doing, to counter stereotypes about the Chicano/a
population as a group that does not read. Contributions (in English,
Spanish, or both) can be as short as one
paragraph or as long as needed by the contributor. If contributions have
been published before elsewhere, reproduction permission would be required.
Contributions are invited from Chicanos and Chicanas from all walks of life.
Additionally, if you want to tell the story of another person's involvement
with books and reading (e.g. a deceased relative, or someone who could not
write the story her/himself), please feel free to do so. Deadline for
submissions: May 1, 2009. Please include a 4-8 line bio blurb with your
submission, and send to: mmartin-rodriguez at ucmerced.edu.

If you would like to be removed from this list, please reply with your
preferences.

Thanks,

Manuel M. Martin-Rodriguez
