I’m posting to several listservs:

The Department of Creative Writing is interviewing four candidates  
for an assistant professorship in journalism over the next two weeks,  
and you are invited to come meet and talk with them.  All meetings  
will be at 2 p.m. in our new conference room in 4111 INTS (the new  
building behind Arts and next to PE)

  a.    Tuesday, Jan. 22: Bill Grantham: a native of Britain and  
graduate of Oxford, Grantham was a newspaper journalist in England  
and Paris bureau chief of Variety and Daily Variety. He earned a law  
degree from Berkeley and, recently, a doctorate in media and cultural  
studies from UK's University of Sunderland. He's the author of three  
books and many academic, legal and popular articles on media, pop  
entertainment, journalism, law, and policy.

b.     Thursday, Jan. 24: Claire Hoffman: West Coast contributing  
editor of Condé Nast Portfolio, Hoffman was a business staff writer  
for the LA Times until last year, and previously was a documentary  
treatment writer in Chicago and a freelance reporter/research intern  
for the New York Times. She has masters degrees in religious studies  
from the University of Chicago and in journalism from Columbia U. Her  
undergraduate anthropology degree is from UC Santa Cruz.

c.     Tuesday, Jan. 29: Sara-Ellen Amster: Dr. Amster is the lead  
faculty member in journalism at National University in Costa Mesa. A  
former reporter at, among others, the Wilmington, DE, News-Journal,  
Gannett Suburban Newspapers in Westchester County, NY, and Florida  
Today, she earned a doctorate in communication from UC San Diego, a  
masters from Harvard, and a BA in English from Cornell University.  
Her 2006 book is entitled Seeds of Cynicism: The Undermining of  
Journalistic Education.

d.     Thursday, Jan. 31: Devon Powers: Dr. Powers recently completed  
a dissertation on rock music criticism at the Village Voice, earning  
her doctorate in media, culture and communication from NYU; her BA in  
English is from Oberlin. Formerly a music critic and concert/ 
interviews editor at PopMatters.com, she was also an editorial  
assistant at Teen People magazine, both in New York. She's  
contributed freelance articles to, among others, Suede magazine and  
the Village Voice.
