The mission of the California Council for the Humanities (CCH) is to foster
understanding between people and encourage their engagement in community
life through the public use of the humanities. The Council has supported

Position Summary

The Programs Manager has key responsibilities for the California Documentary
Project, a program to support film and radio documentaries, and contributes
to the development and management of other CCH programs. The Programs
Manager should have a strong background in the humanities. Experience in
the field of film and radio documentaries is also desired. The Programs
Manager is based in San Francisco, but be expected to travel. We are
looking for someone with a passion for public cultural programming and a
broad experience with grant making, program development, fundraising,
project management and evaluation. 

Duties: 

The Programs Manager works to develop, implement and manage CCH programs.
Reporting to the Associate Executive Director, the Programs Manager is
responsible for: 

1. Managing California Documentary Project grant programs. Coordinates
development and revision of guidelines and application materials, outreach
plan and marketing, and review process involving CCH board. Participates in
staff review and evaluation. Conducts outreach activities and assist
applicants with proposal preparation (budget and narrative). Monitors
funded projects within region. 

2. Representing CCH, serving as a liaison with regional cultural, scholarly
and philanthropic institutions and organizations, as well as with the
general public by organizing and attending meetings, making presentations,
and participating in events where a CCH presence is desired. 

3. Participating in ongoing program development, implementation,
fundraising, marketing and evaluation work of CCH along with other
colleagues. 

4. Working on special projects as assigned by the Associate Executive
Director.

Qualifications: 

. Experience with program development, implementation, and
management, particularly cultural or educational programs. 
. Strong organization skills and the ability to carry out
assignments independently. 
. Excellent analytical skills 
. Ability to grasp the "big picture" as well as "details" and
ability to work well on both levels of generality. 
. Ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse
backgrounds, interests, and educational levels both orally and in writing. 
. Knowledge of film and radio documentary field desired.
. Background in documentary work desired.
. Strong interest in/passion for public humanities/cultural
programming.
. Willingness to travel.

Salary Range: $42,000 - $48,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
