The mission of the California Council for the Humanities (CCH) is to foster<br>
understanding between people and encourage their engagement in community<br>
life through the public use of the humanities. The Council has supported<br>
and created programs that bring Californians together around their history<br>

Position Summary<br>
<br>
The Programs Manager has key responsibilities for the California Documentary<br>
Project, a program to support film and radio documentaries, and contributes<br>
to the development and management of other CCH programs. The Programs<br>
Manager should have a strong background in the humanities. Experience in<br>
the field of film and radio documentaries is also desired. The Programs<br>
Manager is based in </span></font><font size=2 face=Georgia><span
style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Georgia'>San Francisco</span></font><font
size=2 face=Georgia><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Georgia'>, but be
expected to travel. We are<br>
looking for someone with a passion for public cultural programming and a<br>
broad experience with grant making, program development, fundraising,<br>
project management and evaluation. <br>
<br>
Duties: <br>
<br>
The Programs Manager works to develop, implement and manage CCH programs.<br>
Reporting to the Associate Executive Director, the Programs Manager is<br>
responsible for: <br>
<br>
1. Managing California Documentary Project grant programs. Coordinates<br>
development and revision of guidelines and application materials, outreach<br>
plan and marketing, and review process involving CCH board. Participates in<br>
staff review and evaluation. Conducts outreach activities and assist<br>
applicants with proposal preparation (budget and narrative). Monitors<br>
funded projects within region. <br>
<br>
2. Representing CCH, serving as a liaison with regional cultural, scholarly<br>
and philanthropic institutions and organizations, as well as with the<br>
general public by organizing and attending meetings, making presentations,<br>
and participating in events where a CCH presence is desired. <br>
<br>
3. Participating in ongoing program development, implementation,<br>
fundraising, marketing and evaluation work of CCH along with other<br>
colleagues. <br>
<br>
4. Working on special projects as assigned by the Associate Executive<br>
Director.<br>

Qualifications: <br>
<br>
. Experience with program development, implementation, and<br>
management, particularly cultural or educational programs. <br>
. Strong organization skills and the ability to carry out<br>
assignments independently. <br>
. Excellent analytical skills <br>
. Ability to grasp the "big picture" as well as "details"
and<br>
ability to work well on both levels of generality. <br>
. Ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse<br>
backgrounds, interests, and educational levels both orally and in writing. <br>
. Knowledge of film and radio documentary field desired.<br>
. Background in documentary work desired.<br>
. Strong interest in/passion for public humanities/cultural<br>
programming.<br>
. Willingness to travel.<br>
