Hi all, I am forwarding information about a new NIFA funding opportunity:
From Learning to Leading: Cultivating the Next Generation of Diverse Food and Agriculture Professionals Program (NEXTGEN).

There is a proposal limit of 3 proposal per institution. I don’t see this on RED’s limited submission calendar, so I’m not sure how the campus is handling selection. If you are interested in submitting something, please let me know.

Closing Date: Tuesday, October 25th

Letter of Intent due by Friday, September 16th

Dear Dr. Uhrich,

We would like to make you aware of an astounding new NIFA funding opportunity for From Learning to Leading: Cultivating the Next Generation of Diverse Food and Agriculture Professionals Program (NEXTGEN)<http://go.aplu.org/NjAzLVVSVy0xMjcAAAGGicmQuTMy56KQWt_43giOWNsgTwzVzGmcKGHAVjmU2GpR2j00Ce6on83WH2j4R4T2cJJ-D-s=>. USDA anticipates providing up to $250 million for the NEXTGEN program.<http://go.aplu.org/NjAzLVVSVy0xMjcAAAGGicmQuXcd4Ko8SQukcWjHs49VziBiyMhhiszNXBfxRjPJVRq4kOqVQArWTB4B-Lb43JO9iCw=>

The primary goal of the program is to build and sustain the next generation of the food, agriculture, natural resources, and human sciences (FANH) workforce, including the future USDA workforce, primarily through providing student scholarship support, meaningful paid internships, fellowships, and job opportunity matching, and also facilitating opportunities to learn the processes and pathways leading to training and employment in the federal sector.

Eligible applicants include the following:

  *   1890 land-grant institutions
  *   1994 land-grant institutions
  * Alaska Native serving institutions and Native Hawaiian serving institutions
  *   Hispanic-serving institutions (specifically, the certified Hispanic-serving agricultural colleges and universities<http://go.aplu.org/NjAzLVVSVy0xMjcAAAGGicmQuRUlngM1R4lnO_rWNyGFT4mNgV2Mu4AWF9KWQZFLJPMj7oxZE8bEtgwNv3OuOURsRro=> - FY22 List of HSACUs<http://go.aplu.org/NjAzLVVSVy0xMjcAAAGGicmQuSGL_Rhfj7Bpg4OS58XI2whxpEuYUMloExroxVT9ZpbqaFllTO_fMWEBRVtR-SWsOnA=>)
  * Insular area institutions of higher education located in the U.S. territories

While 1862s and many Non-land-grant Colleges of Agriculture are not eligible institutions, the rfa encourages collaboration with these institutions. For example, these institutions could serve as a graduate education partner for student training or they could help other institutions build their programs. Further, the 25% curriculum development in the RFA could be used for such a partnership as well.

Also, please note that many of the HSACUs are community colleges, so take a look at the list<http://go.aplu.org/NjAzLVVSVy0xMjcAAAGGicmQuSGL_Rhfj7Bpg4OS58XI2whxpEuYUMloExroxVT9ZpbqaFllTO_fMWEBRVtR-SWsOnA=> to see if schools you routinely work with are on the list and could be looking for partner institutions.

Project Types:

  *   Student Scholarship Projects
  *   Experiential Learning Projects
  *   Outreach and Engagement Projects

Note that there is a proposal limit of three proposals per eligible institution as the lead institution. Funding is limited to $20,000,000 maximum per award.

More information should be out soon. I will send along any updates as soon as we receive them.
