Dear CITL Members,

To better improve the security of our vHost environment, please be advised
of an upcoming change, taking place from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM on Tuesday,
November 24, 2020. This change will improve security by disabling external
secure shell (SSH) access to vHost websites from off-campus networks.
Services should continue to run as normal during the change window, however,
moving forward this change requires a process modification for website
managers. Once the change is implemented, users attempting to gain backend
access to a vHost site will be required to do so while connected to the
campus VPN. (For instructions on how to install the VPN, please read this
article in the Knowledge Base
<https://ucrsupport.service-now.com/ucr_portal/?id=kb_article&sys_id=fb8ada4
f1b93d01063c62fc02a4bcb07> .)

Again, this change is needed to better secure campus systems and data, and
only impacts backend users of vHost websites. Frontend access to these
websites will remain unchanged.

To follow the status of this change, please see the TechAlert
