Dear Dr. Mueller,

Happy New Year! I hope you’re doing well.

Yesterday, our Safety Engineer, Tracy Stark, had an opportunity to do a
walk-through of the Chemical Sciences building and noted a few safety
concerns (see attached for photos). Normally, I would ask Patrick Monnig to
follow up with the labs, but he’s currently out on leave. However, I’ve
cc’d Juan Pablo Simonovis, our Research Safety Engineer, who can help
provide guidance to the labs if there are questions. Can you please send a
reminder to the occupants in Chemical Sciences of the following?

   - All lab doors should remain closed *at all times*. No doors should be
   propped open.
   - Properly store all food and drink items in sealed containers.
   - Remove items that are blocking safety equipment such as fire
extinguishers, emergency phones, electrical panels, etc.
   - Electrical extension cords should not be connected to outlets from the
lab into the hallways. Please remove these extension cords.
   - Contaminated, broken glass needs to be placed into a cardboard box and
taped shut, and then submit a WASTe request for disposal. If the glass is
not contaminated, please tape shut and dispose in regular trash. Please do
not leave boxes of broken/unwanted glass in the hallways.
   - Remove any broken or unused office equipment by submitting a
   facilities work order.

As a FYI, we have put in a work order to Facilities to review the HVAC to
ensure that labs are under negative pressure. The Work Order Request ID is
30717.

Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to discuss via
zoom/phone.

Thank you for your attention in this matter,

Tiffany
