New ASE Orientation (Departmental Orientation) for Academic Year 2025-26

Dear ASE Hiring Units,

The BX/BR Agreements   require the University to notify the UAW union of
all known *new* ASE departmental orientations thirty (30) days prior to the
commencement of the term.  Please provide your responses directly to the
Employee and Labor Relations Office (please do *not* “reply all”):

1.     Do you require all your *new* Teaching Assistants to attend
the campus-wide new Teaching Assistant orientation scheduled by the
Graduate Division?

*Note: this is required by the UCR Graduate Division unless an exception
has been approved.  *

2.     Do you have a new ASE orientation in your department?

*Note: a new ASE orientation is a departmental orientation directed
to new ASEs only. An orientation directed to all ASEs (returning and new)
is not a “new” ASE orientation.  If you have a question about
an orientation, please contact me at the number below. *

3.     If your department is conducting a new ASE orientation, please
identify the ASE titles required to attend (e.g., Associate Instructor,
Teaching Assistant, Reader, Tutor, Graduate Student Researcher)

4.     If your department is conducting a new ASE orientation that meets
the criteria in item #2 above, please provide the date, time, location,
agenda, and the departmental contact.

Please provide these responses to Employee and Labor Relations, via email
at mariela.bridges at ucr.edu no later than August 22, 2025.
