12 month Conservation Equity Internship Openings in Corvallis, Oregon

Do you love plants and wildlife? Are you inspired by hands-on work
conserving and restoring threatened and endangered species and restoring
critical habitats?

The Institute for Applied Ecology (http://appliedeco.org/) is now accepting
applications for two full-time 12 month internship positions. These are
paid positions with benefits and are intended to provide experience to
individuals from underrepresented communities considering conservation
biology or restoration ecology as a career. Deadline to apply is Sunday,
January 30, 2022.

These internships are an opportunity to gain experience in aspects of
conservation biology, restoration ecology, ecological education, rare plant
propagation, botany, and field research. While working in IAE’s
various programmatic areas and under the mentorship of IAE staff, interns
will experience a full annual cycle of conservation activities including
substantial field and office based activities throughout the year.

Interns will work on a variety of projects throughout the state of Oregon,
including rare plant habitat surveys, threatened and endangered species
research and monitoring, invasive species management, habitat restoration,
environmental education, and plant propagation. The positions are based in
Corvallis, Oregon, but during the field season, up to 50% of the work is
conducted out-of-town/overnight (accommodations include hotels and
camping). Internships will last from April 11th, 2022 to April 8th 2023.
For more information about the types of projects interns work on, please
visit: https://appliedeco.org/about/programs/

Internship program goals and objectives:

Introduces early career individuals to conservation careers

Helps to establish a pathway for individuals from underrepresented
communities into natural resource related professions

Provides experience in many facets of applied species and habitat
conservation work

Provides career guidance for conservation-related fields

Builds natural history and field research skills

Raises awareness of conservation issues in Oregon

Qualifications:
Studies have shown that Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC),
women and other marginalized groups are less likely to apply for jobs
unless they believe they meet every one of the qualifications as described
in a job description. We are most interested in finding the best candidate
for the job, and that candidate may be one who comes from a less
traditional background. If you are interested in applying, we encourage you
to think broadly about your background and qualifications for the role.

Keen interest in conservation biology, restoration ecology, and botany

Plant identification skills (or enthusiastic willingness to learn)

   Potential for research

   Attention to detail
