Dear Faculty,
We have heard from many of you about workload and operational challenges within the BMPN unit. We are taking action to rebuild capacity in BMPN with the goal of improving services to faculty and providing staff with additional support, thereby enabling a strong and stable administrative unit.
To ensure records are accurate and reports to faculty can be prepared more quickly and accurately, we have added a transactor to the unit who is working with your current analysts to ensure necessary adjustments to grants and discretionary fund sources are transacted immediately. This action enables analysts to address your questions promptly with accurate information readily available.
To build more analytical capacity, we have hired two additional analysts who will train with experienced analysts from the Department of Botany & Plant Sciences. Christine will work with administrative leaders from B&PS to balance the workload across existing and new analysts, ensuring we utilize the capacity of the new staff to BMPN's best advantage. These analysts begin work on October 6. We have also re-initiated the CNAS-led training process for new staff, a venture that has been successful in the past.
There remains more work to be done. We acknowledge that faculty need to be assigned a permanent analyst. To meet this goal, we first need a fair evaluation of the workload and an assessment of the structural changes that will yield the greatest benefit to both faculty and the administrative team. This is progress, and we aim to have these changes announced and implemented this quarter following discussions and feedback.
I would like to emphasize the importance of teamwork and collaboration between faculty and staff as we work together, as a team, to solve this problem. All of us are aware of the times we live in and the ongoing pressures at home and work. With teamwork and patience, we will obtain a successful outcome here.
Sincerely,
Peter
