Dr. Thomas Perring 
Associate Vice Provost - Undergraduate Education

Professor of Entomology

 

As the Associate Vice Provost of Undergraduate Education, Dr. Perring's
office assists with promoting undergraduate student success and provides
campus-wide advocacy for undergraduate education at UCR, and includes
overseeing Summer Sessions, Education Abroad Program, and the University
Honors Program.

 


As a Professor of Entomology, he is currently teaching Entomology 10
[Natural History of Insects] as well as a Seminar in the UC Washington D.C.
Program in addition to a variety of graduate level courses. His lab's main
research interest focuses on the epidemiology of arthropod-borne plant
pathogens in order to describe ecological parameters that are important in
seasonal disease cycles and ultimately reduce crop loss. Second, the lab is
studying various aspects of the biology, ecology and control of
agriculturally important mites, with current projects specializing in date
palms and ornamental queen palms. And lastly, they are developing
environmentally and economically sustainable Integrated Pest Management
[IPM] programs to reduce the use of harmful chemicals while at the same
protecting the agricultural commodity.

 

The Mixer is a casual event including light lunch and the chance to chat on
a personal level.
