Invites you to attend a Colloquium by:

Dr. Katalin Szelényi
Ph.D. in Higher Education & Organizational Change
University of California, Los Angeles

Speaking on:

“Pathways in STEM Education: Organizational
Change, Policy, and the Student Experience”

In her presentation, Dr. Szelényi will focus on
two forces of organizational change shaping
higher education in the United States. First, she
will summarize her work in the 2007 National
Study of Living-Learning Programs, an
NSF-supported quantitative project of 22,412
undergraduate students at 46 U.S. colleges and
universities. Specific emphasis will be upon the
role of residence hall living-learning programs
in facilitating the educational success of undergraduate women in STEM fields.

And second, Dr. Szelényi will discuss her
multi-institutional qualitative project of 70
graduate students and faculty, examining the ways
in which commercial and entrepreneurial cultural
influences are reshaping graduate student
socialization in science and engineering fields.
The presentation will describe the dominant
organizational climates of science and
engineering doctoral education and present
data-driven policy implications for governmental
authorities, universities, and faculty.
