Speaking on:

"Exploring the Impact of Financial Aid on Community College Students"

Despite the large and continually-emerging body of higher education
research with financial aid as a focal point, few studies address the
impact of financial aid on students who first matriculate in the two-
and less than two-year sector. This quantitative study, using
logistic regression, builds on the existing financial aid and
persistence research in that it examines the relative contribution of
financial aid awards to sub-baccalaureate persistence and associate
degree or certificate attainment. From a social justice viewpoint, it
is important to determine how financial resources and policies that
were created for traditional-age students attending four-year
institutions translate to educational outcomes for non-traditional
students in an environment in which postsecondary educational
attainment and skill development have become a pre-requisite for
getting and remaining above the poverty line. Therefore, it is
crucial to determine how financial aid programs equalize educational
opportunity in the sub-baccalaureate sector with respect to
enrollment and completion for poor and otherwise disadvantaged students.
