Hi Folks,

This is just a reminder to vote in the campus elections this week.
It's even easier than voting for EEOBGSA president and GSA rep! See
Mike Bell's email below for his take on this. To vote, you just need
to go to:

Hi fellow mini-GSA chairs. I would appreciate it if you could forward
this message (or something like it in your own words) to your
constituents.

This is a very important week at UCR. It is Campus Elections Week.
Graduate students historically do not have high rates of participation
in campus elections and I want try to get as many people involved as
possible. The link to the elections website is
http://elections.ucr.edu. It literally only takes a minute to vote, so
please educate yourself on the ballot items below and participate in
the campus community.

There are two very important referendums on this year's ballot.

The first is the Green Campus Action Plan (GCAP) Referendum.
This referendum will add a $2.50 per quarter fee to install solar
panels on the Highlander Union Building (HUB) and on Lot 30, create
internships at the new Office of Sustainability, and fund student
initiated sustainability projects to aid our campus in becoming more
environmentally sustainable over the next four years.

The second is the Recreation Center Expansion Referendum. (I am a
member of the Recreation Facilities Governing Board who is backing the
Rec Cen Expansion referendum, so if you have any questions about the
details, please contact me at michael.bell at email.ucr.edu)

Is a quarterly fee of $149 (not effective until Winter 2014) to expand
the Student REC Center in order to add services, facilities and
amenities, create 170 additional jobs for students, and accommodate a
future population of 25,000 UCR students?

The approval of this referendum would provide:

Fee will not begin until expansion is completed; expected date: Winter 2014..
25% of the fee will be returned to financial aid to help offset costs
for students who are eligible for financial aid.
The Expanded REC Center would feature:

A spacious outdoor swimming pool and spa
New gymnasium with more basketball, badminton and volleyball courts
170 more jobs for students
An increase in size of the cardio/weight area
Double the number of multi-purpose rooms
Indoor jogging track
State-of-the-art Fitness lab and massage therapy room
Indoor climbing and bouldering wall
Demonstration kitchen for healthy cooking classes
Smoothie/Juice bar

Thank you for your time, and please do not hesitate to contact me if
you have any questions.
