[Bgsa] access to loading dock

Hello All,

I asked John Rotenberry if he had made any progress on finding a
better system to get access to the loading dock, and it turned out
that he had made some. He has spoken with Bev, and the upshot of this
is that faculty can request a FOB that will open the gate to the
loading dock, and once they have them, can lend them to students.
They make the request to Bev and pay a small fee - see the message
from Bev below (and forward it to your advisors, if you like) - it
sounds like it is pretty easy, even for overworked faculty members.

Unfortunately, we cannot request these ourselves. However, if you
need to use the loading dock before you are able to get your advisor
(or some other friendly professor) to help you out with this, you can
still get access via a somewhat inconvenient process during business
hours, which may nonetheless beat getting a parking ticket.
Basically, there is one FOB or card for opening the gate that is
available to be checked out from Shardai. Because there is only one,
you can't check it out for more than a few hours, but it would be
feasible to park your car somewhere legal on campus, check out the
FOB, then go back to your car, do what you need to do, park it again,
and return the FOB. Just requires a little planning. I'll ask John
if it might be possible to get a few more so that we could check them
out overnight.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Carla

Dear Carla,

Any of our faculty can contact me regarding gate access.  If they have a
FOB, I can arrange to get it activated (they actually have to go out to the
gate to "wave" it in front, while I call Parking to notify them, so I have
to be here when they do it).  If they do not have a FOB, they can get one
and is about $5.00 (again, they need to go through me).  Or, they can get a
proximity card (if they are still available, as we last checked about a year
ago on this option) it is about $15.00.

If any of the faculty wish to have this done, it is best to email me and we
can set up a time and which arrangement above they are interested in.  This
would be the only paperwork they need (they can talk with Dr. Cardullo on
how "easy" the process is if they would like, as I recently activated his
FOB for the gate).

Thanks,
Bev

Hello Bev,

I spoke to John this morning about getting access to the loading dock, and
he said that faculty are able to request fobs that would allow them to open
the gate.  I'd like to communicate this to the graduate students so that
they can pester their advisors to do this, but would first like to confirm -
would the professors need to come to you, or should they go to someone else,
and is the process difficult (i.e., a fair amount of paperwork needed?) or
do they just need to ask?

I shall look forward to your reply.

Cheers,

Carla
