Dear Fellow Graduate Students,

As you know, several committees have recently been set up to run the EEOB
program, and we currently have representatives on two of them (the Teaching
and Program Committee (Mart Turcotte) and the Web Committee (Teri Orr)).
The faculty would now like for us to nominate a representative for the
Admissions Committee, and I am writing to find out which of you might be
interested in this position.

Here is what Wendy says about what this student will do:

"I wanted to ask for your help with finding a student to serve on the EEOB
Admissions Committee. We need someone who has already advanced to
candidacy, is in good academic standing, and is willing to play a major role
in organizing recruitment weekend, especially Gradfest (which is tentatively
scheduled for March 6 at the Botanical Gardens). He or she would not,
however, be involved in reviewing applicants' files."

Recruiting good graduate students, as I'm sure you guys are aware, is vital
for the reputation of our program, so it benefits all of us to see that
recruitment is well done, and, because we've all looked for graduate
programs recently, we have insights about what students are looking for that
should be valuable to the committee. In addition, our representative on
this committee can help to make sure the recruitment process is honest and
transparent, which should also be to the benefit of the program, and is
something that we may be better equipped to think about than the faculty
are, because we have a better idea of what new students may be expecting and
what sorts of things may come as surprises to them.

So, I hope that many of you will be interested in this position. If you
have advanced to candidacy and might be interested in doing this, please
send me an email. Just so you know, the student we nominate will need to be
approved by the faculty on the Admissions Committee.

Cheers,

Carla

P.S. Wendy would like to thank all of the folks who filled out the
recruitment survey. She says our responses have been very helpful in
guiding the committee's plans for recruitment.
