The UCR Orchestra is having their winter concert Sat Jan 31 & Sun Feb 1. The show is all music from Great Britain and Ireland and is going to be great. If you don't like music of this kind come anyway and see me make a fool of myself playing percussion for the first time!! Hope to see you all there ! The UCR Orchestra features Ian Whitelaw, the renownedAmerican player of the Scottish Highland bagpipes, in the witty OrkneyWedding, With Sunrise by Peter Maxwell Davies.  IanWhitelaw is a frequent winner of national bagpipe competitions; he hasperformed Orkney Wedding with orchestras across the United Statesincluding with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and currently directs the UCRiverside Pipe Band.  Also featured are Vaughan Williams' 'Wasps'Overture and popular Fantasia on 'Greensleeves' ; MalcolmArnold's Tam O'Shanter portraying the wild ride of the drunkenScotsman of Robert Burns' famous ballad; the poignant Shropshire LadRhapsody by George Butterworth; the magnificent "Jupiter"movement from Holst's Planets; and the Irish tune Molly on theShore as arranged by Percy Grainger.
