The UCR Orchestra features Ian Whitelaw, the renowned<br>American player of the Scottish Highland bagpipes, in the witty<i> Orkney<br>Wedding</i>, <i>With Sunrise</i> by Peter Maxwell Davies. Ian<br>Whitelaw is a frequent winner of national bagpipe competitions; he has<br>performed <i>Orkney Wedding</i> with orchestras across the United States<br>including with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and currently directs the UC<br>Riverside Pipe Band. Also featured are Vaughan Williams'<i> 'Wasps'<br>Overture</i> and popular <i>Fantasia on 'Greensleeves'</i> ; Malcolm<br>Arnold's <i>Tam O'Shanter</i> portraying the wild ride of the drunken<br>Scotsman of Robert Burns' famous ballad; the poignant <i>Shropshire Lad<br>Rhapsody</i> by George Butterworth; the magnificent "Jupiter"<br>movement from Holst's <i>Planets</i>; and the Irish tune <i>Molly on the<br>Shore</i> as arranged by Percy Grainger. Ruth Charloff<br>conducts.
