As per the announcement below circulated on June 9th, EH&S inventory teams
have been dispatched to conduct chemical inventories in teaching and
research labs in the Departments of Biology and Cell Biology & Neuroscience
located in Spieth, Boyce and ULB.
According to federal, state and local laws, UCR must maintain an inventory
of existing hazardous materials at campus locations. By conducting the
inventories with their own resources, EH&S has removed the responsibility
from the researcher.
Therefore, please cooperate with the inventory teams and allow them to
survey your lab. Should you decide that this is not an opportune time for
the survey, upon their arrival, please schedule a convenient date with the
survey team.
Regards, Dan

Please see the announcement below from Maggie Souder, EH&S, to all
Laboratory Safety Officers regarding the approaching campus chemical
inventory......Dan
Dear LSO,
It is nearing time for the periodic inventory of campus chemicals. During
this inventory, EH&S employees will enter research and chemical storage
areas to inventory the chemicals present. Below is a brief description of
what campus personnel can expect during the inventory.
Please notify your department personnel of the upcoming inventory visits.
Brief Description of Expectations for Inventory Visit
1) Each inventory teams is comprised of two persons.
2) ALL inventory collection personnel will be wearing badges that identify
them as UCR EH&S employees. Individuals not wearing a badge should not be
admitted to your lab.
3) Inventory teams will not arrive in your laboratories before 8:15 a.m.
and will leave by approximately 4:30 p.m. Teams will break for lunch
between Noon and 1:00 p.m.
4) Teams will be using laptop computers to inventory original containers
and will be placing a barcode on each container. This will prevent
re-inventory of the same container and assist EH&S with next year's
inventory process.
5) It is our goal to successfully inventory the campus while causing as
little disruption as possible. Teams will be instructed to work as safely,
quietly and efficiently as possible.
6) If containers must be temporarily moved during the inventory process,
they will be replaced in their original order in the cabinets and on the
shelves.
7) If special access is required to restricted areas,
refrigerators/freezers, etc., EH&S will make arrangements with research
personnel in order to minimize their inconvenience.
8) Questions, comments and suggestions regarding the inventory collection
process should be directed to me via email
<mailto:margaret.souder at ucr.edu>margaret.souder at ucr.edu or phone (2-6303).
As always, we are interested in continuous improvement, so suggestions and
comments are welcome.
Regards,
Maggie
