Last Friday, January 28, 2005, Spieth Hall (primarily the east & west
wings) was permeated with what appeared to be smoke from burning
wood. Unfortunately, I was not on campus that day so, I did not experience
the incident. Subsequently, I have learned that the source of the smoke
was a large wood fired grille that was parked in the adjacent construction
site for the Biological Sciences Building. Since the equipment was placed
adjacent to the fresh air supply grate, the HVAC system sucked the smoke
directly into the building.

In an effort to prevent a similar event from occurring in the future, it
would be helpful to know how the smoke in the building personally affected
you. Please send me a brief scenario of your experience on that day (time
you smelled or observed the smoke, physical symptoms, reaction, etc.).

Your assistance is appreciated........

Regards, Dan
