Focus Group Opportunity: No Plans to Study Abroad? Tell Us Why

The UC Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) is recruiting focus group participants among first-generation college students, Latinx students, and/or transfer students who have not studied abroad before. The focus groups are part of federally-funded grant project to expand opportunities for undergraduates historically underserved by study abroad programs.

Eligible UCR students can participate in a 90-minute conversation about their perceptions of study abroad. Focus groups will take place on Thursday, February 16th at UCR. Please see the focus group info sheet for more details.

Each participant will receive a $40 e-giftcard to Target.

Know your Deadlines!

Thinking about withdrawing from a course? Be sure to make your decision before this Friday at 12PM!
------------------------------------------------------------
The deadline to withdraw from a course is next Friday (February 17) by NOON.  To withdraw from a course, you will need to complete the Enrollment Adjustment Form (EAF) that can be found at myforms.ucr.edu.  Please also take note of the following:

Withdrawing from a course does not impact your gpa in any way.

A “W” will appear on your transcript, but again, this does not impact your gpa.

If you are considering withdrawing from a course that is required for your major (lower division or upper division) please consider consulting with your academic advisor to determine if such an action will cause potential issues.

Youth Health and Development Lab

UCR Youth Health and Development Lab is tudying risk and resilience among Black youth who have faced experiences with the juvenile justice system. If you are a young person (age 12-17) or know of someone in Southern California who recently encountered the justice system or police, we would love to hear your story!

The Highlander Union Presents: The Cultural Events Fund

2023 Advancing Black Pathways (ABP) and Advancing Hispanics & Latinos (AHL) Commercial Banking Fellowships

Applications for the 2023 Advancing Black Pathways (ABP) and Advancing Hispanics & Latinos (AHL) Commercial Banking Fellowships are now open! Attached are the 2023 ABP and AHL CB Fellowship application flyers.

Applications will close Friday, March 10th. Candidates are reviewed on a rolling basis. Students are highly encouraged to apply as early as possible. Applications must have all assessments completed to be considered eligible for review.

Both Fellowships target sophomore students (graduating between Dec 2024- June 2025)
The Fellowship Programs are principally aimed at attracting undergraduate sophomores who self-identify as Black, Hispanic, or Latino/a; however, all sophomores, regardless of background, who are interested in exploring opportunities at JPMorgan Chase, are welcome to apply. ABP & AHL Fellowship Programs are two separate applications.
The Fellowships are structured as a six-week summer experience. Candidates will spend three weeks completing Firmwide programming in NYC followed by three weeks with one of the four CB lines of business:

PAID Undergraduate Summer Research Opportunity in California and Maryland | Apply Today!
The National Council for Preservation Education (NPCE) is now accepting applications to its Internship Program until the deadline of Wed., Feb. 22 at 5:00 PM (EST). Current undergraduate and graduate students and recent graduates are eligible to apply for these paid internships for the Summer of 2023. Details: There are 50+ positions available, at different U.S. National Parks and National Park Service (NPS) offices across the United States. The internships range in length from 10 to 30 weeks. Unless otherwise noted, the hourly pay is $17.00. Travel to the site and housing during the internship is usually the responsibility of the intern but there are several positions that include free or cheap housing and/or a travel allowance. Some positions are remote or partly remote; view the job descriptions for details.

Qualifications: Academically promising students (3.2+ GPA) with coursework and/or experience (volunteer and/or paid) in the fields of history, museum studies, architecture, communications, archeology/anthropology, historic preservation, GIS, and allied fields. There’s something here for a wide range of interests in the cultural resources fields: cataloging and conserving an archeological collection of Southwest and Tribal artifacts in Salt Lake City, UT; conducting research on properties and sites related to the Reconstruction Era in Beaufort, SC;  digitizing collections at a Presidential Home and Library in Independence, MO; compiling ethnographic resources on traditionally associated peoples associated with a historic site on San Juan Island, WA; helping to conduct vulnerability assessments of cultural resources threatened by climate change in Fort Collins, CO (remote); and much more. Follow-up, interviews, and hiring are done by the on-site supervisor at the respective internship sites.
Upcoming Deadline! Paid summer internships in the Humanities
The third iteration of the Enslaved.org Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP) will be hosted at the University of Maryland and the University of California, Riverside. The 2023 cohort will participate in a seven-week (June 5-July 21, 2023) residential research experience, working closely with project partners to learn methods for data-informed historical research, develop a dataset to be published in the Journal of Slavery and Data Preservation related to the history of enslavement and the recovery of enslaved lives in the State of Maryland, and share their findings with academic and public audiences. Participants will receive a stipend.

Accommodations and travel to and between research sites in Maryland/DC/Virginia are covered by the program, as well as transportation and accommodations for the culminating Scholars Institute, to be held at the UCR Palm Desert Center (Palm Desert, CA), the week of July 17-21.
