🌞 Join Us for a Delightful Day by the Lakeside! 🌞

The Biochemistry Graduate Student Association (BGSA) invites you to the
Summer Backyard Bash 2024 at Puddingstone Lake in San Dimas (Frank G.
Bonelli Regional Park, a 30-minute drive from UCR). On August 25th, from 9
a.m. to 6 p.m., we’ll come together for a day of connection, celebration,
and fun. It’s a fantastic opportunity to engage with other graduate
students, postdocs, early-career scientists, and even our professors. Let’s
prepare for a fresh start in the 2024-2025 academic year.

What is the Summer Backyard Bash?

Our tradition, which began during my time as a research assistant in Dr.
Song’s lab, brings together early-career scientists, graduate students,
postdocs, and BCMB students from the microbiology, plant biology, and
biochemistry labs in Boyce Hall—but not limited to—to cultivate a strong
scientific community.

Participation fee: $25 per person (kids under ten, professors and their
guests attend for free). The park charges an all-day entrance fee of $12
per vehicle.

You can Bring a guest. If you want to bring more than one, check with us
after August 20th.


What to Expect:

Grab food throughout the day and enjoy refreshments 🍕🌮🍦 ☕️🍹

We’ll discuss research, enjoy intellectually stimulating topics, play games
🥏, and even have musical entertainment if you will. 🎶

Meet the first-year students and celebrate their completion of the written
comprehensive exam as they prepare to start their second year! 👋

Please find attached the tentative menu and schedule, which will be subject
to changes depending on the participants and their requests. The day’s
schedule includes morning snacks and coffee, pizza, fruits, ice cream,
salads, and plenty of cold refreshments in the afternoon, as well as a main
meal catered by Casa del Rey Mexican Restaurant.

Recommendations and Requests:

Please Bring a folding chair and a picnic blanket.

Feel free to bring games ⚽ or musical instruments 🎸.


Considerations:

Maintain a respectful atmosphere (avoid discussions on sensitive topics).

Let us know if you plan to walk around the lake so we can keep track of
anyone who might be absent for too long.

No alcohol is allowed in the park, but the choice is ultimately yours.

Please help by sharing this invitation with your lab mates and fellow
graduate students.
