*Submissions Due: *Friday, October 7, 2025

On January 17, 2026, the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive will
open *Theresa Hak Kyung Cha: Multiple Offerings
<https://bampfa.org/program/theresa-hak-kyung-cha-multiple-offerings>*, the
largest exhibition to date dedicated to the art and life of Theresa Hak
Kyung Cha (1951-1982). Featuring more than one hundred objects and ephemera
drawn primarily from BAMPFA’s collection and archives, the exhibition will
span the full breadth of Cha’s multifaceted career across conceptual art,
film, performance, and poetry, highlighting Cha’s radical approach of
“Multiple Telling with Multiple Offering.” Curated by Victoria Sung,
Phyllis C. Wattis Senior Curator, with Tausif Noor, Curatorial Associate,
the exhibition situates the artist within the lively experimental art
scenes of the Bay Area, New York, and Europe in the 1970s and ’80s. Works
from the 1970s by figures such as Yvonne Rainer and Terry Fox will be
presented in the exhibition alongside newer works made by an
intergenerational group of contemporary artists, including Cecilia Vicuña,
Renée Green, Cici Wu, and Na Mira, who have engaged deeply with Cha’s
practice and speak to the lasting impact of the artist today. The
exhibition will be accompanied by a richly illustrated catalogue edited by
Sung, with curatorial and scholarly essays by Julia Bryan-Wilson, Jordan
Carter, Danielle A. Jackson, Mason Leaver-Yap, and the exhibition curators,
as well as a roundtable discussion with artists Na Mira and Cici Wu,
moderated by Min Sun Jeon.

In conjunction with the exhibition, BAMPFA will host *“Multiple Offerings:
New Directions in Research on Theresa Hak Kyung Cha,” *organized by Tausif
Noor and Kimberly Yu, Jay DeFeo Foundation Curatorial Fellow and PhD
student in History of Art at UC Berkeley. Though Cha is best known for her
path breaking work *Dictee *(1982), her life and work have been the subject
of significant scholarly attention across fields as diverse as comparative
literature, film and media studies, and Asian American and diaspora studies
for her radically interdisciplinary practice. In the spirit of multiple
offerings, we invite proposals for paper presentations that expand the
existing scholarship on Cha’s oeuvre from a range of specializations,
addressing topics that span the breadth of Cha’s oeuvre.

Please submit abstracts of no longer than 250 words by *October 7,
2025*. Presentations
should not exceed 15 minutes. We will reserve time for discussion at the
end of each panel. The symposium is open to scholars and graduate students
in any discipline, as well as artists, critics, and curators. In addition
to the abstract, please also submit:

   - A participant bio
   - A description of any necessary support and technical needs you may
   have beyond a standard microphone

*We regret that we cannot provide funding for travel or housing, nor can we
provide an honorarium for participation. All materials must be submitted
