Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the Charles F. Fraker Graduate Conference, organized by graduate students in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Michigan. The conference will take place October 17–18, 2025, in a hybrid format, with most programming taking place in person in Ann Arbor.

In recognition of ongoing financial constraints and institutional disparities in travel funding, we are offering a limited number of virtual presentation slots. We encourage applicants who are able to travel to join us in person, as virtual participation will be more competitive due to space and technical limitations.

This year’s theme is Capitalism & Desire. We invite proposals from graduate students engaging with a wide range of questions, methodologies, and theoretical frameworks. The conference is committed to fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and collaborative scholarship, and we encourage submissions that push the boundaries of traditional disciplinary divisions.

We would greatly appreciate it if you could share this announcement with your graduate students and relevant contacts. Questions can be directed to us at frakerconference at umich.edu<mailto:frakerconference at umich.edu>

You can find the Call for Papers attached and linked here<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MrxwFsz9K0FeZh18DnTl5chuGUX17fan/view?usp=share_link>.

Please complete the following form for submission: https://forms.gle/9zENxMYi9i1Wotu67

Thank you for helping us create a space for rigorous, imaginative, and inclusive graduate scholarship.

Sincerely,

Antonia Alvarado, Julianne Angeli, Mauricio Perez, Juan Romero Vinueza, Felipe Sánchez, and Melissa Vásquez
