Thanks to Dr. Keyes. I didn't think it was important news. Also, the reporter got a three things wrong: 1) since I have only been to Cambodia a few times and didn't buy tons of books there, I wouldn't say that I "scoured Cambodia;" 2) I only bought about 250 books in Burma. UCR's Burmese collection is still small; 3) I haven't exactly been doing this for "decades." I just turned 37 years old and only went to Thailand for the first time in the early 1990s. I wouldn't call 16-17 years going back and forth to the region "decades"! I do look really old though, so maybe the reporter assumed...

Still, UCR's Thai and Lao collections are quite large (and especially good for Buddhist Studies, Lao and Thai literature, and Southeast Asian art). Lots of good things there if people get a chance to visit. The SEATRiP (Southeast Asia: Text, Ritual, and Performance) program at UCR has a number of excellent faculty and the MA program is growing quickly.

Its true that my mom thought I would be a priest!

Thanks again,
justin
