Dear All,

I recently learned that Edwin Zehner (Visiting Fellow, Southeast Asia Program, Cornell University) has been named the Visiting Teaching Fellow in Thailand/Southeast Asian Studies at St. Lawrence University) for 2009-2010. This is important because this is the first-ever Thailand/Southeast Asian Visiting Teaching Fellow at St. Lawrence University (Canton, NY, 13617).

This position is funded by a Freeman Foundation grant. Dr. Zehner will be the first Southeast Asia specialist on campus, and will not only be teaching some courses on Southeast Asia (including the beginnings of a course in the Thai language) but will also be doing a number of things in support of other professors desiring to work Southeast Asia content into their own existing courses, outreach, etc., and not just on Thailand, nor just on the Thai language. Dr. Zehner and the emerging program at St. Lawrence will definitely welcome syllabi and other resource suggestions from TLC members. Over the past five years or so, St. Lawrence University has been making serious efforts to beef up its "Intercultural and International Studies" offerings, including the addition of four new languages, Thai being the most recent. With many area studies program shrinking or stagnating, a new program deserves support!

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Zehner and lending your expertise in this new program.

If you would like to contribute syllabi, ideas, etc. please send information to me on or off list.

Best regards,
justin
