CENTER FOR KHMER STUDIES (CKS), PH.D. DISSERTATION RESEARCH
FELLOWSHIP

Targeted Fields: Humanities. Social Sciences. Including area
studies, Asian Studies, Southeast Asian Studies, geographic
locations, and Asia.

Open To: Students Working on Doctoral Dissertation.

Citizenship: Open only to U.S. citizens.

Eligibility Requirements: Must be a doctoral candidate.
Applicants may request up to 5 months of in-country language
instruction prior to commencing dissertation research. The
request for language training should be integrated into the
project proposal.

Stipend: A stipend from $4,000-$10,000 for periods up to 11
months.

Deadline: 11/15/2006

Program Description: The Center for Khmer Studies is an
international not-for-profit institution that provides support
for candidates to pursue their dissertation research in
Cambodia. The Center is dedicated to the study, teaching, and
research on the Khmer civilization and cultures of the Mekong.

HENRY LUCE FOUNDATION, INC. LUCE SCHOLARS PROGRAM

Targeted Fields: Open to all fields. Except Asian studies.

Open To: Prospective/Current Graduate Students.

Citizenship: Open only to U.S. citizens.

Eligibility Requirements: Upper age limit is 29 by September
1st of application year. Knowledge of an Asian language is not
necessary. Must hold a BA degree. Asian specialists and
persons with significant exposure to Asian culture are not
eligible. Must complete a preliminary application form which
can be obtained at 1252 Murphy Hall.

Stipend: Awards provide travel, medical insurance, and living
expenses.

Deadline: 11/15/2006 UCLA Campus Deadline

Program Description: Fifteen young Americans are offered the
opportunity to live and work in Asia to increase the awareness
of Asia among future leaders in American society. Must be
nominated by UCLA.

THE JOHN HOPKINS UNIVERSITY, ANDREW W. MELLON POSTDOCTORAL
FELLOWSHIP IN THE HUMANITIES

Targeted Fields: Humanities. Social Sciences.

Open To: Postdoctoral Scholars.

Citizenship: No citizenship requirements.

Eligibility Requirements: Must have received PhD within the
last 3 years.

Stipend: Stipend of $45,000 with an additional $1,000 for
research and travel expenses. Health insurance and a one-time
moving allowance of $1,500.

Deadline: 11/15/2006

Program Description: Two fellowships offered to encourage
innovative teaching, enriched education, and research
opportunity in the humanities and to foster the career
development of promising young scholars. Each fellowship is
for one year and carries a departmental affiliation and
teaching responsibility. Fellowship renewable for a second year.

Program Description: Fellowship for residence at the Center
for the Humanities. Scholar will teach one undergraduate
course and participate in the work of the Center, which is
currently focusing on cultural studies.

CARLEY HUNT POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS

ethnology, archaeology, anthropological linguistics, and
related disciplines concerned with human origin, development,
and variation.

FELLOWSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT
"The Next Generation: Leadership in Asian Affairs"
The National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR)
 
Please join us in nurturing a new generation of Asia scholars by
encouraging recent master's degree recipients to apply for
NBR's Next
Generation Leadership program, a year-long fellowship that
focuses on
bridging the gap between scholarship and policymaking. The
fellowship
will be based at NBR's headquarters in Seattle. Fellows will
collaborate
with leading scholars to publish research and share their
findings with
the policymaking community in Washington, D.C.
 
The Next Generation Leadership program is breaking new ground by
mentoring and immersing young Asia specialists from a wide
variety of
fields and interests in the skills and the practice of
bridging the gap
between scholarship and policy. Each fellow will receive a
fellowship
award, as well as travel and research-related expenses.

Application deadline is January 15, 2007. Fellowships begin
June 4,
