The Vice Chancellor Student Affairs Organization in conjunction with the Division of Diversity, Excellence and Equity and the Office of Faculty and Staff Affirmative Action invites you to participate in a workshop on the Opportunities and Challenges of Intercultural Communication. This workshop is free to participants within VCSA; however, space is limited so please RSVP as soon as possible by emailing your name and department to Cathy Eckman @ cathy.eckman at ucr.edu!

 

This workshop will be presented by Dr. Carlos Cortés.  Dr. Cortés is Professor Emeritus of History at the University of California, Riverside.  He serves on the summer faculty of the Harvard Institutes for Higher Education, the Summer Institute for Intercultural Communication, and has been an adjunct faculty member of the Federal Executive Institute.  A consultant to many government agencies, school systems, universities, mass media, private businesses, and other organizations, Cortés has lectured widely throughout the United States, Latin America, Europe, Asia, and Australia on the implications of diversity for education, government, private business, and the mass media.  

 

Course Abstract: Explore what the challenges are that people face in communicating across cultures.  What opportunities does diversity provide for contemporary leaders?  These and other intercultural themes will be addressed in this workshop. 

 

When:                  Tuesday, April 20, 2010

 

                Time:                    1:00 to 3:30 pm

 

Where:                HR Training Room (free adjacent parking with UCR Permit)
