On Wednesday, April 15, 2009 UC Riverside will be joining 926 colleges and universities across the nation who will be hosting their annual "Take Back the Night" events. Take Back the Night is an annual rally and march that is organized in local communities throughout the United States as well as in several countries around the world.  The unifying theme is the assertion that all human beings have the right to be free from violence, the right to be heard, and the right to reclaim those rights if they are violated. Take Back the Night gives communities a chance to give a voice to those who have experienced sexual violence.

Take Back the Night is part of National Sexual Assault Awareness Month (April). UC Riverside is hosting various programs throughout the month. Please join us!

*Wed. 4/8: Walk a Mile in Her Shoes 11:30am-12:10pm (Before the ASPB Nooner) Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is a program inviting men to publicly stand up and show their commitment to ending violence by literally walking in women's shoes with the hope that their actions will encourage other men to start thinking about how they personally can do their part to end violence.  

*Mon. 4/13: Sin By Silence (Movie)- Commons 367 4-6pm Sin By Silence is a documentary focusing on Women imprisoned for killing their abusers and how they attempt to educate lawmakers and society in general about the reality of domestic violence.  

*Wed. 4/15: Take Back the Night 7:00-8:00pm: Bell Tower & 8:00-11:00pmBarn Take Back the Night is an event that encourages women and men to bring about awareness of sexual and domestic violence and violence against women and children. There is a candle light vigil and an open mic where survivors and allies are encouraged to share their stories in any creative form.

*Thurs. 4/16: CSULB Sexual Assault Peer Theatre Troupe (interAct) 3:30-5:30pm, ENG 205/206 Since 2000, interACT provides sexual assault intervention programs for universities, domestic abuse shelters, juvenile detention facilities, after-school programs, and drug/alcohol rehabilitation centers. interACT presents complicated, realistic scenes about domestic violence and sexual assault, and invites audience members to enact possible interventions on stage with actor-educators.   

*Wed. 4/22: ""Playing the Game: Sexuality and Communication" Robin Sawyer, UNLH 7pm  Robin Sawyer is a Professor of Human Sexuality at the University of Maryland he will be speaking as well as engaging students in dialogue about Sexual assault and relationship violence
