Fellow members of the UCR campus community,
Next Monday, December 1st, UCR will celebrate World AIDS Day with our 10th
annual Reading of the Names Project. After getting rained out for the first
time last year, we look forward to bringing this event back this year. This
annual event honors and remembers those we have lost to this tragic disease
by reading names of those represented on the AIDS Memorial Quilt. At the
top of each hour, we also read a list of names of people known by the UCR
community who have also lost their lives to HIV/AIDS related causes.
There are two ways you can contribute to this event:
1. Volunteer to read names during the event. Ten-minute time slots are
available from 9AM-3PM at the Belltower. With only 36 time slots available,
you'll want to reserve a time by contacting Doug Everhart at
everhart at ucr.edu Slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
2. Provide a name of someone you know that has lost their life to HIV/AIDS
related causes. Again, at the top of each hour during the event, the list
of names provided by UCR community members will be read. This helps to
"personalize" the event to the UCR community. If you have a name you want
added to this year's list, please send it to Doug Everhart at
everhart at ucr.edu
Thanks in advance for your support of this annual event. Sorry for the
short notice on this, but where the short Thanksgiving week fell this year
caught us off guard. Details of all of our World AIDS Day events will be
coming shortly.
