There is a very nice obituary in the Press Enterprise today for Caril to
include a picture. You can find it at
http://www.legacy.com/PE/Obituaries.asp?Page=Lifestory&PersonId=86876204
and there is even an option to sign the guest book and leave comments for
the family.
The funeral service is going to be tomorrow at noon at Evergreen Cemetery;
however, the family have asked that it be a private family funeral to honor
Caril's wishes. UGA will be sending flowers to the cemetery. Caril will
be buried in the mausoleum at Evergreen Cemetery and the family have
indicated that friends and co-workers are more than welcome to visit the
mausoleum to pay their respects to Caril after tomorrow (3/21/07).
Dear All,
I wanted to let you know that our office received some very sad news on
Friday last week that we lost a very loved staff member. Caril Dundon
passed away Thursday night at her home here in Riverside. Quite a few of
you knew Caril and will feel the sorrow that the UGA staff are currently
experiencing. Please pass this information on to your respective staff
that had a chance to know and work with Caril.
Caril was a __Assistant I in UGA since April of 1995. Caril worked
tirelessly to answer phones and wait on customers at the UGA front counter
in addition to opening mail, attaching labels to applications, sorting
transcripts, entering application information in SIS, etc. It wasn't
unusual for me to get an e-mail from one of our applicants praising Caril
for her assistance. Caril always went above and beyond the call of duty to
serve our applicants.
I will share with you one particular incident that stands out in my mind
where Caril went above and beyond the call of duty. About a week after
Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, Caril received a phone call from a
previous UCR applicant who wanted to know if she could be readmitted since
the university she was planning to attend was under water. As our
procedure dictated, Caril referred the student to the appropriate college
office for information on how to readmit to UCR. The student called Caril
back, very upset because the college office was not very helpful. Caril
came immediately into my office, obviously very upset because the student
wasn't receiving the help that she deserved. Long story short, Caril
ensured that the student was taken care of and ultimately readmitted to
UCR. We will all miss Caril very much!
I do not currently have details about the funeral but when I do, I will
send out another e-mail providing these details to everyone.
