The following opportunities are available for staff in September and October.

*TransGeneration Screening - Wednesday, Sept. 14
*Open House - Tuesday, Oct. 4
*Allies Seminars - First one on Tuesday, Oct. 18

TransGeneration is an eight-episode documentary being aired on the Sundance
Channel in September. As part of the series promotion, we have the
opportunity to preview the first episode before the premiere for free! It
looks at the experiences of four transgender students as they navigate
college and their gender identity.

Lucas is an FTM neurobiology senior at Smith College; Gabbie is an
MTF computer science sophomore at the University of Colorado at
Boulder; Raci from the Philippines is an MTF pre-law student at
California State University in Los Angeles; and TJ is an FTM political
activist at Michigan State University. Capturing their struggles and
triumphs, TRANSGENERATION dramatically unfolds as these four students
balance the challenges of academia, campus life, and family
with their commitment to gender reassignment.

We are offering two screenings, open to staff, faculty and students.
         Tuesday, September 13 5:00pm-6:30pm LGBTRC (250 Costo
Hall)
         Wednesday, September 14 noon-1:30pm Lower
Level Mtg Rms (Costo Hall)
(feel free to bring food with you)

This is a great professional development opportunity to see how four
college-age trans students navigate college and their gender identity.

NO NEED to RSVP. Just show up!

Open House - Learn about resources, programs, student groups, and special
events for LGBT people and their Allies at the LGBTRC Open House. Enjoy
free food, and a chance to make connections with the campus community
supportive of LGBT folks and their allies.

Tuesday, Oct. 4 - 4:30-6:00pm at the LGBTRC in 250 Costo Hall.

Allies Seminar - Any student, faculty, or staff interested in joining the
Allies Safe Zone program should attend an Allies seminar.

Allies is a network of UCR students, faculty, and staff who are supportive
of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender people, and of anyone dealing with
sexual orientation or gender identity issues.

Potential Allies members will learn about LGBT issues, receive resources
and referral info, interact with a panel of LGBT students, and discuss
issues of heterosexism and privilege.
After attending the seminar, participants may choose to sign a contract
promising to be a safe space, and they receive an Allies placard sign to
hang outside their office or residence hall room.

Participants must RSVP to the LGBT Resource Center, 827-2267 or out at ucr.edu.
Pizza provided.
