On Behalf of Dr. Wallace Cleaves:

Welcome to UC Riverside! We are looking forward to your joining the campus
community. This message is about steps you need to take to satisfy the *UC
Entry-Level Writing Requirement (ELWR)* in a timely manner. First, you need
to review the ways you could, or may have already satisfied the ELWR*.* It
must be satisfied no later than the end of your freshman year, and
preferably by the end of your first quarter. Check the list below to see
whether you have already satisfied that requirement by at least one of the
following methods:

*Pathway to Satisfy the ELWR:*

*Test Score or Result Required:*

ACT: English Language Arts section

30 or better

ACT: English + Reading sections

63 or better

ACT: Combined English/Writing
(exam last administered June 2015)

30 or better

SAT: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing
*Note*: The digital SAT Reading and Writing section score has not been
approved to meet the ELWR

680 or better

AP English: Language and Composition

3 or above

AP English: Literature and Composition

3 or above

AP Seminar

3 or above

AP Research

3 or above

IB English: Language & Literature (Higher Level)

5 or above

IB English: Language & Literature (Standard Level)

6 or above

IB English: Literature (Higher Level)

5 or above

IB English: Literature (Standard Level)

6 or above

Transferable English Composition course offered by a college or university.
*Note*: Course must be completed before a student matriculates to UCR)

Grade of C or better

If you have not satisfied the requirement by one of these methods, you
should sign up to complete the *Writing Placement Process (WPP) *diagnostic
essay. As of today, our records indicate you have not yet satisfied the
ELWR as no official documentation has been processed to clear the
requirement. If you have satisfied the ELWR in one of the approved
methods, please make sure you submit your documentation to UCR Admissions.

The WPP will be administered online through Canvas, UCR’s learning
management system.

Our recommendation: complete the WPP in May or June:

            May 16th – 10am or 5pm

            May 17th – 10am or 5pm

            June 17th – 10am or 5pm

            June 20th – 10am or 5pm

            June 21st – 10am or 5pm

Completing the WPP will ensure your placement information will be available
when you register for fall quarter classes during your Highlander Advising
Support & Registration session. Confirming your writing placement early
*reduces* the chance you will need to modify your fall schedule later in
the summer to take account of your placement information. We recommend you
complete the WPP even if you are waiting on the results of another method
to satisfy the ELWR.

The Entry-Level Writing Requirement and the WPP diagnostic essay have
nothing to do with admission to UCR. We are writing to you *because* you
have already been admitted. What you need to do now is begin to make plans
to satisfy the UCR Entry-Level Writing requirement as soon as possible.

Please do the following:

· Visit our website <https://uwp.ucr.edu/elwr#wpp> for more
information about the placement process.

*· **Register for the WPP *here
<https://ucriverside.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_db8Ir1lPTUQrabs>*. *

· Students requesting accommodations for the WPP should contact
<https://sdrc.ucr.edu/incoming-admitted-students-disabilities> the Student
Disability Resource Center at least 3 weeks before the administration date.
Only approved accommodations can be applied to the WPP.

We wish you success at UCR. General information about the Entry-Level
Writing Requirement, the Writing Placement Process, and frequently asked
questions can be found on our website <https://uwp.ucr.edu/elwr>.

If you have further questions, please contact the University Writing
Program at uwp at ucr.edu. Our goal is to help you succeed at UCR.
