Dear Amaan,
Thank you for your email. Students who have AP English credit (a score of 3 or better on an AP English exam (Language & Composition exam, Literature & Composition exam, AP Seminar, or AP assessment in Research) should plan to submit their official scores to UCR. It is important that you request that your scores are sent to UCR Admissions. Once you request that the official score is sent, it is possible that College Board may wait to send the scores in one large batch at the beginning of July. In this case, please note that you may continue to receive notifications about completing the Writing Placement Process until your official AP scores are processed. You do not need to complete the WPP if you have already satisfied the ELWR by passing your AP English exam. If you still do not see your official AP scores reflected in your record in the beginning of July, please feel free to contact me again.
For more information on how to submit test scores and transcripts please click here<https://admissions.ucr.edu/transcripts-test-scores>. Please let me know if you have additional questions.

You don't often get email from amaanmga at gmail.com<mailto:amaanmga at gmail.com>. Learn why this is important<https://aka.ms/LearnAboutSenderIdentification>
Dear Dr. Cleaves,

I scored a four on my AP Seminar exam. Does this satisfy my writing requirement, and does it exempt me from having to take the entry-level writing test?

Best,
Amaan Mohammed

On Behalf of Dr. Wallace Cleaves, Director of the University Writing Program:

Welcome to UC Riverside! We are looking forward to your joining the campus community. This message is about steps you need to take to satisfy the UC Entry-Level Writing Requirement (ELWR) in a timely manner. First, you need to review the ways you could, or may have already satisfied the ELWR. It must be satisfied no later than the end of your freshman year, and preferably by the end of your first quarter. Check the list below to see whether you have already satisfied that requirement by at least one of the following methods:

· 30 or better on the ACT, English Language Arts; or

· 63 or better on the ACT, English + Reading

· 680 or better on the SAT, Evidenced-Based Reading and Writing; or
Please note: The digital SAT Reading and Writing section score has not been approved to meet the ELWR.

· 3 or above on the College Board Advanced Placement Examination in English (Language or Literature) or Seminar; or

· 3 or above on the College Board Advanced Placement assessment in Research

· 5 or above on an International Baccalaureate Higher Level English A: Literature exam

· 6 or above on an International Baccalaureate Standard Level English A: Literature

· 5 or above on an International Baccalaureate Higher Level English A: Language and Literature exam; or

· 6 or above on an International Baccalaureate Standard Level English A: Language and Literature exam; or

· The requirement can also be met by earning a grade of C or higher in a transferable English or Writing composition course offered by a college or university.

If you have not satisfied the requirement by one of these methods (our current records indicate you have not yet done so), you should sign up to complete the Writing Placement Process (WPP) diagnostic essay exam. The WPP will be administered online through Canvas, UCR’s learning management system.

Our recommendation: complete the test in June:
            June 21st – 10am or 5pm
            June 22nd – 10am or 5pm

Completing the WPP will ensure your placement information will be available when you register for fall quarter classes during the Second Phase Registration session. Early testing reduces the chance you will need to modify your fall schedule later in the summer to take account of your placement information.

The Entry-Level Writing Requirement and the WPP diagnostic essay exam have nothing to do with admission to UCR. We are writing to you because you have already been admitted. What you need to do now is begin to make plans to satisfy the UCR Entry-Level Writing requirement as soon as possible.

Please do the following:

· Visit https://uwp.ucr.edu/elwr#wpp for more information about the exam.

· Register for the exam here<https://ucriverside.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bmHmwXKuwbrzuEm>.

· Students requesting accommodations for the exam should contact<https://sdrc.ucr.edu/incoming-admitted-students-disabilities> the Student Disability Resource Center at least 2 weeks before the test date.

We wish you success at UCR. General information about the Entry-Level Writing Requirement and the Writing Placement Process can be found on our website at: https://uwp.ucr.edu/elwr.

If you have further questions, please contact the University Writing Program at uwp at ucr.edu<mailto:uwp at ucr.edu>. Our goal is to help you succeed at UCR.
