** All incoming students must satisfy Entry-Level Writing Requirement. Those who have not satisfied the requirement by other means (see approved list here<https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/elwr/requirements/>) must take the UC Analytical Writing Placement Examination.
If you have met the requirement, please submit your official documentation to UCR Admissions as soon as possible. Students who have sent official documentation proving you have satisfied the ELWR do not need to take the Analytical Writing Placement Exam. Please note you will continue to receive notifications regarding this requirement until the ELWR has been officially cleared from your record.
Should the ELWR not be cleared by the time you attend Highlander Orientation, please be prepared to show a copy of your official scores/transcripts to your advisor at orientation.**
On Behalf of Professor John Briggs, Director of the University Writing Program:
Welcome to UC Riverside! We are looking forward to your joining the campus community! According to our records, you have not satisfied the Entry-Level Writing Requirement and have not yet taken the required University of California Analytical Writing Placement Examination. The AWPE assesses your Entry-Level Writing proficiency and determines your UCR English course placement. There is a three-quarter time limit for satisfying the requirement. If you do not pass the AWPE or earn a grade of "C" or better in a qualifying ELWR class by the end of your third quarter of UCR coursework, you will be lapsed from the University.
The University Writing Program has six make-up exams in July and August. Please do the following:
* visit https://uwp.ucr.edu/elwr#awpe for information about the make-up exams
* pay for the exam or verify a fee waiver by visiting: https://www.awpe.org/candidate/
* register for the exam here<https://ucriverside.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8pG8lPnEgGJOL5k>.
* registration for a particular test date closes two days before the exam.
* be prepared to provide your photo identification.
* know your UCR Student ID Number (862-xx-xxxx)
* BE ON TIME! Late admittance will not be permitted.
Results from this test (along with future email notifications) will be sent to your UCR student email account. You should enroll in the appropriate English course for the fall quarter.
We wish you success at UCR. General information about the Entry-Level Writing Requirement and the Analytical Writing Placement Exam and specific information about the deadline for fulfilling the Entry-Level Writing Requirement can be found on our website at: https://uwp.ucr.edu/elwr.
