SOE undergraduate students,

I'm writing to share some important information from the UC Office of the President, with input provided by UC immigration experts and outside legal counsel.

Attached, you will find resources regarding UCR's international students, scholars, and employees, as well as our undocumented students and employees. These attachments include:
· A letter to UC Chancellors from President Drake
1. Information about a Know Your Rights card for UC undocumented students and employees, which will be available at UCR and other UC campuses soon [this is an extremely important document to review and understand]
2. Information and important dates regarding the CA Dream Act Application (CADAA) and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

As your Associate Dean, I want to highlight a few important points from these documents below, with emphasis added in some parts. These highlighted points are NOT EXHAUSTIVE; please review these documents in full as they apply to you. Even if they don't directly apply to your individual status, I would strongly encourage you to become familiar with all of the attached information.

From "1. Information about a Know Your Rights card..."

Your Rights If Immigration Comes To Your Home********(Including an Apartment or Dorm Room)**********
• You do not have to open your door unless an officer has certain kinds of warrants: Ask the officer to slip the warrant under the door or hold it up to the window so you can inspect it. A search warrant allows police to enter the address listed on the warrant, but officers can only search the areas and for the items listed. An arrest warrant allows police to enter the home of the person listed on the warrant if they believe the person is inside. A warrant of removal/deportation (ICE warrant) does not authorize officers to enter a home without consent. You do not have to provide consent if you do not want them to enter.
• You have the right to remain silent, even if an officer has a warrant that authorizes their entry.
• You do not have to sign anything. If you sign, you may be giving up your opportunity to stay in the U.S.

From "2. FAFSA and CADAA..."

The California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting student data. They assure students that information provided on the CADAA<https://csac.ca.gov/sites/default/files/2024-11/eom_2024-06.pdf> is not shared with federal immigration authorities.

We realize there remains uncertainty surrounding these topics, and we will continue to share additional information and resources as we receive them. Please don't hesitate to contact me directly.
