________________________________
We want to remind you to continuously check the UCR Academic Calendar for important deadlines or any upcoming enrollment days/times
Here is the link to refer to the UCR Academic Calendar: https://registrar.ucr.edu/calendar
Starting Monday, October 19th, any enrollment modification (add/drop) course requests for the Fall 2020 term will be submitted through the Enrollment Adjustment form (myforms.ucr.edu). We would like to remind you of some changes to the drop, Satisfactory/No Credit, and withdraw deadlines for the fall quarter that differ from previous quarters as we address enrollment and academic concerns due to COVID-19. This is similar information to what you have already received on 10/02/2020. If you have any questions about this or the following message below, please contact your primary advisor via email or schedule an appointment to discuss requesting any of these options toward your fall 2020 enrollment to ensure that they are beneficial and appropriate.
Message:
Due to the challenges posed by COVID-19, we are adjusting the withdrawal/drop deadlines for fall 2020 and winter 2021 quarters:
A student may drop a course (receive no "W") without prior approval no later than the end of the second full week of instruction. From the third through the end of the eighth full week of instruction, a course may be dropped with the approval of the advisor. Any course drop which would reduce the undergraduate student's academic load to less than 12 units must be approved by the college. Any withdrawals (with a "W") after the eighth week will require college approval. The final date to petition for conversion from letter grade to S/NC or vice versa will be the end of the eighth full week of instruction.
This change in policy is also reflected on the UCR Academic Calendar at https://registrar.ucr.edu/calendar#last_day_to
This academic change has no impact on the University of California refund policy (https://registrar.ucr.edu/tuition-fees/refunds) for University Withdrawals.

Community Engaged Learning Opportunities
* Please contact Sarah E. Juarez (Community Learning Coordinator) at gsoelearningcoord at ucr.edu<mailto:gsoelearningcoord at ucr.edu> if you are interested in our community engaged learning opportunities below and want to learn how to access them.
If you are not able to access a computer with a camera but are still interested in signing up, please let Sarah know.
1. Freshmen Collective - Peer Mentoring
The Freshman Collective is an exciting new mentoring program for UCR students who are entering college as a freshman. Students are matched with mentors who are there to offer guidance as students acclimate to life in college. Mentors will assist mentees in navigating the many adjustments that students often face when attending college for the first time.
Students connect with one another using text messages. There is no need for an app, no downloads, nor any websites to visit. Just text your mentee(s) to see how they are doing.
Here’s how the Freshman Collective works:
* Time Commitment:
* Mentors serve for one-year (Oct-June). However, you’re more than welcome to stay connected with your mentee(s) after the program formally ends.
* We recommend that you connect with your mentee(s) at least once per month, typically about 1-2 hours a month.
* Mentors take a one-time, 30 minute, mentor training to show you how to connect and provide you with the resources to be a great mentor.
* Matching Process:
* Students complete a survey about themselves and their backgrounds.
* Mentor Collective matches students and mentors based on what the student says is most important to them.
* We expect mentees to begin signing up in early October.
* Once you are matched with a mentee, you will both decide how you want to connect, which can happen via email, phone, video chat, text, or in-person.
For more information, please visit https://ue.ucr.edu/freshman-collective-mentoring

Girls Who Invest Scholar Program - Deadline 10/30/20
“Girls Who Invest” is dedicated to increasing gender diversity and inclusion in the industry with a focus on growing the pipeline of women in frontline investing positions. Their flagship summer program enables rising juniors to explore investment management careers through four weeks of free education followed by a six-week paid internship at one of more than 100 leading investment management firms.
Girls Who Invest is looking for talented, motivated sophomore women who show potential to become great investors in the making. They do not need to be finance majors as the program helps women start strong irrespective of major. Just by encouraging 10-20 women from your campus to apply (or many more), we can help change both the representation of women and UC students in asset management.
Here are a few basics from the organization:
* What does it take to become a Girls Who Invest Scholar? Girls Who Invest scholars are intellectually curious and academically confident, love research and analysis, strive to grow and improve as active learners, communicate and collaborate effectively, and most of all, want to make a positive impact on the world.
* Who can apply? All majors from sophomores enrolled in, or transferring to, 4-year programs at U.S. universities are welcome to apply.
* If they can't commit to 10 weeks but would be an asset to the Girls Who Invest community, the self-guided Online Intensive Program is a great flexible alternative.
* For more information, visit www.girlswhoinvest.org/our-programs<https://mx.technolutions.net/ss/c/XXc6adqa997Wg7dFYCT9Vq5ZPXLx0JTqhVK1AYi7o9vOdlpCfQiTxD56RmukZGP6hflfwaLeutSXB9952p1psg/357/Dw1DAwZ6Sa2yclBjYURhUA/h0/KqAUNm0Yyq-862jjn2WpuiIuNuHc4cPGCnkS5iMwPbY>, view the e-flyer<https://apply.girlswhoinvest.org/documents/2021ProgramsFlyer.pdf>, or hear from the founder directly in our introduction video<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gacgT8lnmtQ>.
In addition to the available information sessions, Girls Who Invest is also happy to host ones specific to UC students. To schedule a time to talk about Girls Who Invest's programs and application, please contact Girls Who Invest CEO Katherine Jollon Colsher or Jim Caldarise at jimc at girlswhoinvest.org<mailto:jimc at girlswhoinvest.org>.

GSOE Connector Update
It’s come to our attention that some emails sent from our advising email address, including the Friday “GSOE Connector”, have been going to spam. If you have not been receiving the weekly GSOE Connector, please add the address edundergrad at ucr.edu<mailto:edundergrad at ucr.edu> to your “safe sender” (non spam) list to ensure receipt of important updates and information from undergraduate advising.

Remote Learning Resources
During this critical time, it is important for us to continuously educate ourselves and stay informed about remote learning resources.
As a student, check to view this website (https://keeplearning.ucr.edu/quick-guide-remote-learning). This website entails official UCR communication about courses, online learning, instructions, and other resources as we navigate through this online space together.
