Retirees and emeriti are cordially invited to register for the *Walks,
Talks & Tours Activity: Tour of the UCR Insect Research Museum.* Due to the
limited capacity of no more than 12 attendees, we are offering two
opportunities for the tours.

Visitors will get a glimpse into what a major research collection (over 4
million specimens) actually is, and does. The image of a museum as a static
collection of artifacts has little connection to the reality of how much
happens in an active collection, and how a museum interfaces with students,
faculty, government, and the public on a routine basis. People still, even
in the digital era, have an intuitive grasp as to the value of libraries,
but even though the same principles hold for museums, the awareness of
their value might require a little more explanation, and I hope to give
exactly that.
