Join the UCRRA in Supporting UCR Undergraduate Students During May Giving Month
Dear UCR Retirees,
The UCRRA leadership team has excitedly announced in the Spring Tower Talk newsletter that the month of May will be dedicated to making generous gifts towards the UCRRA Undergraduate Student Scholarship. The cost of education is higher than ever as well as the ever-increasing cost of living. UCR students continue to thrive through the changes that the pandemic brought onto the college and classroom experience.
For this reason, the UCRRA remains committed in supporting undergraduate students by providing financial support through scholarships to help them achieve their educational goals at UCR. The UCRRA values the hard work of UCR staff and retirees and aims to support their families by giving preference to their children and grandchildren. As retirees of UCR, many of us have witnessed success stories of our undergraduate students and the importance of financial support through scholarships. Below is a success story of our recent student recipients of the 2021-2022 UCRRA Undergraduate Scholarship.
Alberto is pre-med and hopes for a career as a physician. He is the first member of his family to attend college. Alberto's aunt is a UCR retiree who encouraged Alberto to apply for the UCRRA scholarship. When Alberto was notified about his scholarship he stated, "As part of the next generation of future scholars, I am proud and humbled by the support from the UCR Retirees' Association". The UCRRA and all UCR's retirees wish Alberto success in his studies and look forward to his graduation and successful career.
Nicholas's father is a UCR staff member and works as an Automotive Equipment Operator. Nicholas expressed a heartfelt thank you when he was notified about his scholarship. He said, "I will use this scholarship and focus on getting my degree in order for a great future". Nicholas is determined to be successful at UCR as he wants to be a role model that his little brother and little sister can follow. The UCRRA and all retirees wishes Nicholas a rewarding undergraduate experience and hope that your little brother and little sister will follow in your footsteps as proud UCR Highlanders.
As we nearly approach May, we kindly ask you to consider joining us in supporting this worthy cause. Below we have outlined our goal and our ask for the May Giving Month.
UCRRA May Giving Month Goal
The UCRRA awarded two $5,000 UCRRA Undergraduate Scholarships in the 2021 - 2022 academic year. A $10,000 fundraising goal for the May Giving Month will help the UCRRA to award student(s) for the 2022-2023 academic year. If every retiree donates $10, we can easily reach our student scholarship goal.
The UCR retiree community is strong and we are thankful to come together as one to help our undergraduate students succeed. Please mark your calendars for May Giving Month and look out for a follow up communication which will include details of the UCR Retirees' Association May Giving Month webpage.
We thank you for your valued contributions to UCR!
Sincerely,
Andy Plumley, Acting President
