New Cisco Secure (AnyConnect) VPN: What It Means for Emeriti and Retirees
with UCR Accounts
Given the recent change from the Palo Alto (GlobalProtect) VPN to the new
campus VPN, Cisco Secure (AnyConnect), this communication clarifies what
this change means for UCR Emeriti and Retirees with UCR Accounts.
*Key Takeaways*
· The virtual private network (VPN) does not affect emeriti and
retirees’ ability to access essential UCR resources, including UCR email,
calendar and Zoom.
· The campus upgrade to Cisco Secure (AnyConnect) VPN improves UCR’s
network infrastructure. It serves as a secure tunnel established between
your computer and the network you are connecting to, protecting your data
as it is transmits through the public internet.
· Cisco Secure (AnyConnect) VPN is meant for emeriti and retirees
with UCR accounts who work with sensitive data or require access to
specific campus resources such as restricted online library resources.
· Emeriti and retirees who use the campus VPN must ensure that they
are using the new Cisco Secure (AnyConnect) VPN and follow the campus
guidelines on accessing the VPN if using either self-managed devices or
university-managed devices.
