*Re: *Review Requested: Proposed UCREA Bylaw Amendment
Dear Members of the UCR Emeriti Association,
The UCR Emeriti Association will hold a vote on a proposed amendment to the
UCREA Bylaws at the Spring Luncheon on Friday, May 15, 2026 at the Alumni
and Visitors Center. Please find below relevant information to support our
members through the voting process.
*Vote on the Proposed UCREA Bylaw Amendment*
A draft of the Emeriti Association Bylaws that includes the proposed
amendment listed in section X and noted in blue is attached as well as
listed in this communication below. The bylaws were originally drafted
prior to the establishment of the UCR Retirement Center. With the Center’s
close partnership with UCREA, it became necessary to add a section formally
incorporating the Retirement Center into the bylaws. At the UCREA Executive
Board Meeting on February 11, 2026, the Board approved this proposed
amendment for referral to the members:
X. Retirement Center
1. The UCR Emeriti Association works jointly with the UCR
Retirees’ Association to plan and support the activities of the UCR
Retirement Center.
2. The Director of the UCR Retirement Center provides all
administrative support that is needed to carry out the activities of the
UCREA and UCRRA.
3. UCREA and UCRRA jointly maintain committees to advise the Retirement
Center Director and assist in carrying out jointly planned
activities. These joint committees include a Long Range Planning Committee
and a committee to plan Events and Programs.
A. Long Range Planning Committee. This committee consists of the Retirement
Center Director, the Presidents of the two Associations, and one or two
additional members from each Association. The purpose of this committee is
to advocate for the ability of the Retirement Center to support retiring
and retired staff and faculty on the UCR Campus. This might include
advocating for: (1) appropriate and effective space to accomplish the
goals; (2) appropriate funding, which might include fund-raising
activities; (3) coordination with Retirement Centers at other UC campuses
for support of emeriti and retirees; (4) coordination with CUCRA and CUCEA
on benefits and support of emeriti and retirees; (5) periodic reviews of
the effectiveness of the Retirement Center. This committee reports to the
boards of each Association at least once per quarter.
B. Events and Programs Committee. The membership of this committee will
consist of two Co-Chairs, one each from the UCRRA and UCREA, and at least
two additional members from each Association to be appointed according to
the Bylaws of each. The committee has the following responsibilities: (1)
to plan and organize social, educational, volunteer and philanthropic
activities for the UCR retirement community; (2) to identify strategies to
more fully and consistently engage retirees and emeriti through programming
and events and communicate these to both Association Boards; (3) to survey
UCR retirees and emeriti periodically to gather feedback and to encourage
recommendations for future events and programs; (4) to collaborate with
campus units such as the UCR Career Center and Basic Needs Departments to
identify and coordinate support initiatives for the UCR student and
employee communities; (5) to draft an annual budget each fall for
submission to the Board of each Association; and (6) to recommend potential
speakers for the quarterly luncheon to the President of the UCREA.
Responsibilities of the Co-Chairs include (1) to call regular meetings of
the Committee; (2) to share responsibility for chairing the meetings; and
(3) to coordinate with the UCR Retirement Center (UCRRC) Director to
publicize events to the UCR retirement community; and (4) to bring forward
committee updates or agenda items to the UCRRA and UCREA Executive Board
Meetings.
*Voter Expectations*
UCR Emeriti Association members will be asked to approve the proposed
amendment to our bylaws by voice vote during the Spring Luncheon meeting on
May 15. Members who cannot attend the meeting who wish to vote on these
