UC San Francisco Emeriti and Retired Faculty Association (UCSF ERFA)
cordially invites UCR emeriti and retirees to join the livestream via Zoom
of guest speaker Shuvo Roy, PhD, presenting on “Bioartificial Kidney for
Patients” on Thursday, October 16, 2025 from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. via Zoom.

Chronic kidney failure affects over 800,000 Americans and directly costs
Medicare almost $50 billion annually. While kidney transplant is the gold
standard treatment, the severe shortage of donors means the vast majority
of patients rely on dialysis. To overcome the morbidity and mortality
associated with dialysis, Dr. Roy and his lab are developing a
bioartificial kidney that will be mass-manufacturable and available to all
patients who need one. The device is intended to be totally implanted
without any external connections as well as operate under blood pressure
and without immunosuppression.
