Volunteer Opportunity: FIRST Lego League Tournament in Riverside

The FIRST Lego League is planning an in-person tournament in Riverside on Saturday, November 20, 2021. This event offers children a real-world learning experience in science and technology by providing fun challenges while gaining life skills. Due to COVID safety protocols, more volunteers are needed and UCR's students, alumni, faculty, staff, retirees and emeriti are invited to volunteer at this year's event.

Volunteer Criteria

* Duration: Volunteers will work approximately 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Volunteers for Friday evening to set up the event are welcome.

* Duties: Volunteers will support the event as judges, referees and scorekeepers. No knowledge of robotics is required, although for those with applicable knowledge may be asked to serve as a robot design judge. Assignments will be received beforehand and training for your role will be via a YouTube tutorial and orientation on the morning of the event.

* Format: While this is an in-person event, depending on your needs, judges may have the option of participating remotely.

* Location: UCR has been a great host for many years but campus COVID protocols make that a challenge this year. The City of Riverside is welcoming this event to take place at the new Bourns Family Youth Innovation Center which is about 10 miles from UCR. Transportation will be arranged for those who may need assistance.

Please include the following information:

*       Name, e-mail and phone/text number.

* Preference for a role, if you have one (robot design judge, project judge, referee, scorekeeper, Friday setup).

* Whether you can be there in person. If so, will you need a ride from the UCR campus area? Can you provide a ride from the campus area?

* Any other information you would care to share.

Many of the participants and their families experience this event as the first exposure to UCR and to educational and career pathways in engineering and computer science.
